Dominick's.
I haven't shopped at one in a few years. My last experience left me feeling robbed by the ratio of products versus money spent. When I went frugal this year, of course Dominick's was not on my preferred vendors list.  A few weeks ago I was contacted by a marketer asking if I'd try Dominick's new JustForU program, write a post about my experience, and give away a few gift cards. Absolutely I'll give it a shot, if just to remind myself why Dominick's is not on my list.

Here's how it played out:
Fresh Values Card.
Simple to sign up for and as most stores you get a better price when using it. Thumbs up.

After getting our Fresh Values Card, my hubs and I did a walk through of the store to get a feel for where everything is and a baseline for the prices. It seemed their prices were more inline with the other stores. High Five Dominick's.

Log on to www.Dominicks.com and register for the JustForU program.
Quite simple, used my Fresh Values card number and some other basic 411. Once it was activated I jumped in to play around and see what this was all about. (OK, I admit, I wasn't really rooting for the big D and was prepared to be underwhelmed.)

HOLY COW!
They had me at "Coupon Center: The largest digital grocery coupon site in North America" downloaded to my Fresh Values Card. There was a tear that fell from my eye knowing I can leave my 10 pound coupon bag in the car for my shopping experience! Then there is the Just For U Personalized Deals AND Your Club Specials! I had to take a few minutes to breathe! So far so good.

Today, Sunday, the sales papers arrive, let the comparing commence. I did a double take at the name on top of the Dominick's ad. This circular with fabtacular prices IS theirs!  So, I made my list, loaded the kid and off we went to shop.

While pulling up on my phone the emailed shopping list (I sent it from the JustForU site that lists all the coupons and specials I have loaded on my card), a hip young dude comes up and asks "Did you get your free eggs yet?" I smiled and responded "On my way to get them now!" (When you sign up for the JustForU program, you get a free dozen of eggs! Let me repeat FREE!)

I shopped in every department taking my time to make sure I was getting the best deal. Later, one shopping basket FULL I walked out of Dominick's with a huge smile on my face and almost 50% savings on my entire purchase! I'm uber excited now to see what fabulous deals are waiting JustForME after this shopping extravaganza!

Yes, I have been converted.
The JustForU program has redeemed Dominick's big time! I'm glad that Chicago was the second region (Hawaii the first) to roll out this program. I know it will be a tremendous success for Dominick's and for the frugalists who love great deals just for us!

  2. Casey-Yeah, Dominick's is a local chain, but is part of the Safeway family of stores: Vons, Genuardis, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Pavillions, Carrs, Safeway. I'm pretty sure they cover the country.

  8. I have to admit, I am not a fan of Dominicks AT ALL and have not shopped one in years, but after reading your blog and wanting desperately to start using coupons and saving money, I think I will head over this week and get myself a Fresh Values card and give Dominicks another try. Thanks for posting the information!

  9. I have never tried the Just for U program, but it sounds like a program that I'd like to try. Though Dominick's is a little more expensive than other stores, their level of service and selection of organic produce and products is superior.
