I didn’t want this book to end. Very rarely do I come across books which I literally cannot put down. After seven hours I finished lost in the setting of now and yesteryear with an endearment towards all characters involved.
Susan Meissner quite eloquently exposes the main characters to the reader whose only option is to become completely enthralled in the lives, loves, and laments of 21st Century Jane Lindsay, and 16th Century Lady Jane Grey & Lucy Day
Everything happens for a reason and when it should happen.
Jane Lindsay finds a hidden 16th century betrothal ring representing love from hundreds of years past when her own marriage and life choices are under the microscope and self interrogation.
Hand maiden Lucy befriends a will-be queen, offering Lady Jane Grey moments of normality throughout their years of friendship while she herself finds true love and Lady Jane finds her own voice.
Love, living, life, death are choices everyone makes and controls, even when they have convinced themselves otherwise. The Ladies in Waiting discover this power at different times and circumstances in moments of sadness, happiness, and bewilderment.
This book is beautiful. I look forward to reading more from Susan Meissner.
