Darn Elf on the Shelf Marketing Mavens!

An Elf on the Shelf is not wanted. This tradition I do not want started in the D household.  I'm still experimenting with the whole "you better be good or I'm telling Santa" approach to B's behavior. Really, I don't want her to negate the power of me being the Mom and have her conscious do or don't decision making based on an omnipresent red creepy ass elf. Really.

Friday night we watched some Christmas cartoons. Guess what was on? Yep, The Elf on the Shelf. First the elves in the cartoon DID NOT look anything like that creepy scrawny THIRTY DOLLAR version you can gleefully purchase at your local Target. Next let me tell you that my daughter, though advanced in many ways, is a textbook 3 year old susceptible to the magic that is Marketing. Oh finally just crap on my parade even more! I went on the official Elf on the Shelf website and I can't put into words how AWESOME the darn thing is. Really, as a trained marketer this website made me glow after clicking through it!

Now having already watched the cartoon 3 times I am waiting for those dreaded words from my beautiful angelic daughter's mouth "Mommy can we get an Elf on the Shelf?"

Tell me, do you have one of these elves?

  1. I know you're dilemma , still haven't decided if we're even going to "do Santa" or if I'm just going to let him believe Santa is like any other character in books or movies. It's so tempting though to have a little help in reinforcing good behavior though.

  2. I'd really like to do it this year. I did my own version last year, but hope to do the book & everything this year. We loved little Chippy on Saturday. =)
