The Mom Standard: Executive Homemaker Series: Goals

Mission Statement has been created with the help of Tsh Oxenreider's post Back to Basics: Create a Family Mission Statement on her blog Simple Mom. Next step is creating family goals a.k.a. objectives. Writing the mission for my family made us really think about who we are, where we are, and where we want to be. Creating the statement was that first step to build the momentum of getting to the real guts of our family plan.

According to the textbook Small Business Management "Objectives are the purposes, goals, and desired results for the business [family] and its parts."

As my husband and I talked about our goals and desired results, we realized a bit more understanding of our individual, husband & wife needs should to be presented before committing our family's path to paper. (Of course, if you have older children then they should be included in the goal setting. For us, B, though she may think she's 12, is only 2 so we have a proxy vote for her!)

Dr. Willard F. Harley, Jr Marriage Builders has created 5 pertinent questionnaires for spouses to complete. In preparation for setting The Demetrio Family, Inc.'s Goals, we are answering these questionnaires to make sure where we think we are is correct and what tweaking needs to be done to make our objectives clear, concise, realistic, and achievable.

We'll be doing this over the next couple evenings and then create our goals!

Wow, what an awesome idea! I love that your posts and the approach you take to be a stay at home mom, and still business smart! YOu are awesome! :-) I'm going to have to check out those questionares.

Thanks Casey. Do check out the Marriage Builders site. There are 5 main questionnaires I am using: Emotional Needs, Financial Needs, Recreational Needs, Love Busters, and Personal History.

So...you going to start a Mission Statement for your fam? :-)

I love this idea. It makes a lot of sense to have spouses (significant others) on the same page regarding goals and purpose. I'll have to look into these questionnaires. Thanks for more great info!

Thanks for a great post. I'm going to do this in the next couple of days with hubby. Since we will be living full time on an RV traveling the country soon, our lives will be drastically different then they are right now. So that makes this the perfect opportunity to do this and make sure we are on the same page. I know in my head what I think my goals are, but sometimes when you write things down, your heart speaks a little louder as well. Can't wait to do this!

Love your post and am feeling kind of inspired to create a family mission statement, too. Perhaps I'll go re-read your post on doing that.

And I hadn't eeven thought of starting by consulting with my partner and then, doing the family thing. Good reminder to start there first!

I love this idea. Once the kids are in school, I want to come up with a sort of mission statement for all of us - including myself.
